Second International Conference on Plant Molecular Breeding
(ICPMB)
Sanya City, Hainan Province, P.R. China
Description: "The 2nd International Conference on Plant
Molecular Breeding (ICPMB), will be held in Sanya City, Hainan
province, P. R. China on March 23-27, 2007. This event will
focus on applied plant genomics and molecular plant breeding
in view of the increasing need to use new molecular approaches
and mine novel gene resources. All important aspects of plant
molecular breeding and related transgenic ecological risk
and intellectual property right (IPR) will be covered in several
sessions and satellite workshops."

Controlling Epidemics of Emerging and Established Plant Virus
Diseases: The Way Forward, 10th International Plant Virus
Epidemiology Symposium, ICRISAT, Hyderabad, India.
Description: The past two decades have seen tremendous advances
in the fields of plant virus epidemiology and control through
use of conventional and modern techniques significantly contributing
to the effective management of numerous virus diseases. At
the same time, several unknown viruses have emerged in new
niches and several established viruses have become resurgent,
greatly affecting the productivity of crops. The 10th IPVE
symposium will provide a forum of experts for exchange of
information on the causes of virus epidemics, with a principal
focus on virus disease control. It is a great opportunity
particularly for young scientists and students to meet and
interact with eminent virologists from across the globe. Visit
www.ipve2007.net
for latest updates and for pre-registration online to receive
further updates on the meeting.

is being jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR) and the International Rice Research Institute
(IRRI) and will feature four major events, including the 26th
International Rice Research Conference, the 2nd International
Rice Commerce Conference, the 2nd International Rice Technology
and Cultural Exhibition, and the 2nd International Ministerial

Innovation Africa Symposium
Kampala, Uganda
Description: An international symposium on agricultural innovation
systems in Africa will be held on 20-23 November 2006 in Kampala,
Uganda. It is jointly organized by CIAT (International Centre
for Tropical Agriculture), IFPRI-ISNAR (International Service
for National Agricultural Research division of the International
Food Policy Research Institute), ILRI (International Livestock
Research Institute), IIRR-Africa (International Institute
of Rural Reconstruction) and Prolinnova (Promoting Local Innovation).
The Innovation Africa Symposium will bring together researchers
and practitioners involved in innovation systems to share
current thinking and experiences and to draw lessons for research,
development, policy and practice of innovation in agriculture
and natural resource management in Africa. It will include
a field visit on 20 Nov 2006 to sites of farmer innovation
and participatory research and development. The field visit

InterDrought-II: The 2nd International Conference on Integrated
Approaches to Sustain and Improve Plant Production under Drought
Stress
Rome, Italy
Description: INTERDROUGHT-II served as a platform for presenting
and debating key issues and strategies relevant for increasing
the yield and stability of crops under drought conditions
by genetic and crop management approaches. Great advances
were made in recent years in understanding the molecular basis
of plant response and plant tolerance to drought stress.

Farming Systems and Poverty: Making a Difference
Rome, Italy
Description: The Global Learning Opportunity (GLO) brought
together development practitioners, educators, researchers,
representatives of farmer and producers organizations, civil
society organizations, private business and bilateral and
multilateral organizations and development agencies. The purpose
was to dialogue, analyze and propose strategies and options,
building on the IFSA inputs to the ECOSOC Summit on Integrated
Rural Development, to capture promising opportunities to attain
the Millennium Development Goals, particularly those related
to rural poverty, food security, gender equity and environment
sustainability. Through sharing relevant experiences, success
stories and constraints, participants focused on advancing
development priorities, mobilizing resources, and forming
alliances and partnerships, all of which can lead to making
a difference.

Sustainable Resources 2003: An International Forum Connecting
People of the Developing World with Skills, Capital, and Collaborative
Organizations
University of Colorado, Boulder
Description: With a current population of 6 billion, the world
is becoming a place in which human populations are more crowded,
more consuming, more polluting, more connected, and in many
ways less diverse than at any time in history. In the next
two decades, almost 2 billion additional people are expected
to populate the Earth, a number roughly equivalent to the
world's total population in 1940. It is estimated that 95%
of that growth will take place in developing or underdeveloped
countries. Sustainable Resources 2003 provided unique opportunities
for non-profits, NGOs, donors, funding agencies, humanitarian
organizations, educators, engineers, business people, volunteers,
and representatives of developing communities to meet, learn
from each other, network, discuss new approaches for outreach,
and create new partnerships.
